LONGMONT, Colo. — Longmont Police and Fire are investigating the death of a skydiver on Saturday – the coroner released the man's name.
Gregory Coates, 36, was wearing a wingsuit when he died, and it does not appear his primary or reserve parachutes deployed before he hit the ground, a police spokesperson said.
Crews responded around 3:27 p.m. south of Vance Brand Municipal Airport near Longmont. Police said Coates was skydiving with Mile High Skydiving.
Police said Coates was a resident of a mountain community near the Denver area.
The Federal Aviation Administration was notified but did not respond to the scene. The FAA will assist police and the coroner's office with the investigation.
