SILT, Colo. — On Saturday night, Silt police responded to an incident involving Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert and her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert.
Silt Police Chief Mike Kite confirmed to 9NEWS that the congresswoman and her ex-husband were involved, saying it occurred Saturday evening. Kite said Silt police have reached out to the restaurant for any surveillance video it may have of the incident but have not received any yet.
Kite confirmed the incident occurred at the Miner’s Claim restaurant, which is located at 740 Main Street in Silt, Colorado.
He did not provide any more detail, citing the ongoing investigation. He said the full report will be released when the investigation is over. No one was taken into custody at the restaurant, Kite said.
“This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I’m moving," Boebert said in a statement on Sunday. "I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options.”
In May, Boebert filed for divorce from then-husband Jayson after nearly 18 years. She cited "irreconcilable differences." The divorce was finalized in October, according to the Colorado Sun.
Boebert currently represents Colorado's third Congressional District but won't be running for reelection in that district in 2024. She announced late last month that she's instead running for the open house seat in Colorado's heavily Republican fourth congressional district, which covers Weld County, Douglas County and all of eastern Colorado. The 4th Congressional District is currently represented by Republican Ken Buck, who is retiring.
Boebert said in a Facebook video she plans to relocate to the 4th District next year.
"It's the right move for me personally, and it's the right decision for those who support our conservative movement. This is the right move for Colorado, for us," she said.
Boebert's been in the news for more than politics this past year. In September 2023, the congresswoman was kicked out of the Denver Center for Performing Arts with a date who was not her ex-husband over complaints of vaping, taking pictures and causing a disturbance. Video obtained by 9NEWS shows her being escorted out.
She later apologized for her behavior in a statement that read in part, "There's no perfect blueprint for going through a public and difficult divorce, which over the past few months has made for a challenging personal time for me and my entire family. I've tried to handle it with strength and grace as best I can, but I simply fell short of my values on Sunday. That's unacceptable and I'm sorry."
