Deputies: Suspect who stole FedEx truck surrenders after crashing

The suspect tried to run from deputies after crashing, but eventually surrendered.

DOUGLAS COUNTY - A man who allegedly stole a FedEx truck from a gun range in Englewood Friday has surrendered to deputies after crashing, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.

Officers with the Englewood Police Department were called to The Shootist Gun Range at 2980 S. Galapago St., just before 11 a.m. on a report of a stolen FedEx delivery vehicle.

After further investigation, officers learned that the delivery driver walked out of The Shootist to find a man inside his vehicle, which still the keys inside, police said. After exchanging words, the suspect drove off in the FedEx vehicle.

Englewood Police said the suspect led law enforcement on a chase, crashing once in Lone Tree and twice in Douglas County before he was taken into custody by deputies and taken to a hospital for treatment.

At one point, the truck was in the area of Castle Pines near Highway 85 and North Daniels Park Road. Multiple law enforcement vehicles could be seen seen chasing after it.

The sheriff's office said to expect heavy traffic along northbound Interstate 25 through Castle Rock due to the crash.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
