WOODLAND PARK, Colo. (AP) - Woodland Park has a new mayor after city councilors broke a tie by drawing his name from a bowl.
The Gazette reports restaurant owner Neil Levy was sworn in as mayor Tuesday night. Levy and former council member Phil Mella were tied 3-3 after three rounds of voting.
The winner was picked with a drawing because neither the city charter nor state law addresses what to do in the event of such a tie.
Levy replaces David Turley, who resigned in July following allegations that he inappropriately touched a 17-year-old boy in a hot tub at his home.
The 65-year-old has maintained his innocence. Councilors had until Wednesday - 30 days after Turley's resignation - to pick a new mayor.
