DENVER - There were no surprises in the Denver mayor's race Tuesday night. Mayor Michael Hancock, virtually unopposed, won a second term with 80 percent of the vote.
Denver's last similar election was 2007, when John Hickenlooper was easily re-elected with 88 percent of the vote.
Hancock told hundreds of cheering supporters Tuesday night that he would take aim at long-standing challenges in the growing city.
He said "we heard loud and clear that the people of Denver want four more years of progress," which includes more jobs, more housing and more opportunities for children.
Denver's powerful auditor position may be captured in an upset. Former State Auditor Timothy O'Brien, a big underdog, leads former Denver City Councilman Chris Nevitt.
The main competition in the election has been among candidates running for nine seats on the Denver City Council.
