Peaceful protests in downtown Denver

Around 50 people gathered in downtown Denver Thursday night to protest the recent police shootings Minnesota and Louisiana.

Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Denver Thursday night to protest the recent police shootings Minnesota and Louisiana.

The Black Lives Matter protesters started at the State Capitol then marched through downtown to LoDo, shutting down streets along the way.

The protest largely remained calm and subdued, with the crowd chanting “Black Lives Matter.” The peaceful protesters were seen singing and clapping.

9NEWS Reporter Noel Brennan saw the crowd sitting on Lincoln Street in front of the capitol listening to Black Lives Matter 5280.

A small peaceful sit-in continued Friday morning.

It was one of several protests across the country.

Thousands of people gathered Thursday at the school where Philando Castile worked. Castile was shot and killed by a St. Anthony police officer during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights, Minnesota on Wednesday night.

It was one day after Baton Rouge, La. officers shot and killed Alton Sterling outside a convenience store.

In Dallas, protests over the deaths turned violent.Six Dallas Police officers were killed and five other officers were shot by sniper-like gunmen.

The Denver Police Department said, while they do sometimes adjust when things happen across the country, they do not have plans to pair up officers. At this point, the local protests have been peaceful so far. Officers are taking normal precautions.
