Tuesday marks one year since man found dead on Larimer County trail

The family of Paul Gallenstein is offering a reward of up to $50,000 in the case.

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — Tuesday marks one year since someone found the body of Paul Gallenstein, 64, lying on the Foothills Trail near Reservoir Ridge and there are still many questions about what exactly happened to him.

His family is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to a successful resolution of the case.

Gallenstein's body was found at about 10:15 a.m. on the trail on Sept. 10, 2023. Investigators initially said his death was "suspicious" but declined to say how he died. Later they said he had been fatally shot, but noted that despite searches a gun was never recovered. However, search efforts were impacted by the dense foliage surrounding the scene and heavy rainfall in the days following the incident, the sheriff's office said.

"By all accounts, Paul was an active, upbeat person who loved fly fishing, traveling, spending time with friends, and enjoying retirement with his wife of 36 years," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

"Larimer County Sheriff's Office investigators have been working diligently on the case but have not identified a suspect or motive."
