Human remains discovered near remote Park County camping area

Investigators are working to identify the person and collect evidence that might indicate how they died.

PARK COUNTY, Colo. — An investigation is underway involving multiple agencies after someone found human remains in Park County outside of Bailey earlier this week.

According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the Park County Sheriff's Office was notified about the discovery of possible remains on United States Forest Service land just outside Bailey around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the CBI, two different hikers spotted the remains and reported them. Officials from the sheriff's office, coroner’s office, and CBI responded to the area and confirmed the remains were human.

According to CBI, the remains were found near the Deer Creek Campground. They said the scene remains "secure."

Forensic specialists and authorities are examining the remains and collecting evidence that might indicate how the person died. They're also working to identify the person.

CBI is the lead investigating agency and anyone who might have information or a tip to share is asked to call their tip line at 720-295-6642.
