DENVER — The 42nd annual 9Cares Colorado Shares Food Drive continues the fall holiday tradition of helping our neighbors in need by filling the food banks and pantries in our community.
For a second year, 9NEWS has moved away from a one-day in-person donation drive to focus on raising money to feed more people by raising funds to benefit Colorado food banks.
This fall's 9Cares Colorado Shares drive runs from Nov. 3 to Dec. 3.
The drive will help support four Colorado food banks: Community Food Share, Food Bank for Larimer County, Food Bank of the Rockies, and Weld Food Bank.
Ways to donate
2. Round up or donate at all Colorado King Soopers locations. Customers will be given the option of rounding up their purchase or donating $1, $5 or $10.
3. Make an online donation to one of four Colorado food banks at the links below:
Community Food Share's mission is to be a leader in the community’s effort to end hunger in Boulder and Broomfield Counties.
Food Bank for Larimer County provides food to all in need in Larimer County through community partnerships and hunger-relief programs.
With an extended reach across Denver Metro and much of Northern Colorado, Food Bank of the Rockies provides food and supplies to more than 800 hunger relief programs.
Weld Food Bank works to lead and engage the Weld County community in the fight against hunger.
Donate at King Soopers
You can make sure your donation stays in your community by donating at your local Colorado King Soopers. The money raised in stores will benefit food banks in the area.
Customers can round up their purchase or make a donation at the checkout or self checkout.
When you're at King Soopers, you'll see signs at every check stand including an in-store thermometer showing the store's goal and highlighting where they are throughout the campaign.
Find a King Soopers store near you at KingSoopers.com.
Where your money goes
One in 10 Coloradans struggle with hunger and face times when there is not enough money to buy food. Many in the Colorado community will turn to food banks to help bridge the gap in hunger.
Food Bank of the Rockies said a $1 donation can provide enough food for three meals thanks to its robust purchasing power, grocery rescue program, government allotments, donations and lower bulk pricing from agricultural and retail partners.
Food banks can purchase food for much less than what the average person would spend at the store, which helps stretch donors' dollars further.
9Cares Colorado Shares Telethon
The 2nd annual 9Cares Colorado Shares Telethon at 9NEWS will be held Thursday, Nov. 16, from 5 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Callers will be able to make a monetary donation over the phone. Money raised during the 9Cares Colorado Shares Telethon will be distributed to food banks throughout the state.
