Thanks to 9NEWS viewers, a tax obstacle that prohibited a woman from getting a home she won in a charity raffle is no longer a problem.
Crystal Tanner, who suffers with cerebral ataxia, won the St. Jude Dream Home in Aurora this past September, but she couldn’t claim the home because of unaffordable taxes.
Tanner said she wasn't able to get a loan to pay the $180,000 in taxes St. Jude was demanding before it would sign the “Dream Home” over to her name.
The story ended up being one of the most-viewed stories that Next has covered.
Among those viewers were a family, who wants to remain anonymous. They saw Crystal’s story on 9NEWS in October and offered to loan her the money for the tax payment.
Tanner was able to get the home, sell it, and then pay back the loan.
In the end, she acquired about $200,000 from the sale and plans to use it to make her home more accessible for her wheelchair and walker.
"I'll be able to widen the doors... fix the bathroom,” Tanner said. “I love all 9NEWS viewers. Thank you for the support.”
