When South Metro Fire Engine 33 rumbles out to a call, engineer Mike Freeman will be aboard every time.
The new rig bears a plaque with Freeman's name.
He died after a battle with cancer last year. It's believed his cancer was related to his job, responding to fires and saving lives on the South Side of the metro area.

Freeman, who was the department's most senior firefighter, worked there for 43 years and held badge number 001.
The plaque sits next to his seat on the rig. It says, "Enjoy the ride."
