Larimer County Sheriff's Office will hold mass casualty training on Sept. 11

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is warning that citizens may hear simulated explosions and see smoke on Tuesday, the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

LOVELAND, Colo. — The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is warning that citizens may hear simulated explosions and see smoke on Tuesday.

The sheriff's office is holding mass causality training at the Larimer County Fairgrounds and Events Complex on Arena Circle in Loveland.

People can expect to hear loud noises, including gunshots, and see a large presence of emergency vehicles.

The Coast Guard picked Sept. 11 for training in Washington D.C. in 2009, which set off a panic when people thought there were boats firing on the Potomac. Next called to ask why the Larimer County Sheriff's Office chose Sept. 11 for training like this. We are told the decision was likely dictated by staffing.

The exercise is expected to last between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
