DENVER — A year after opening the application process, the city of Denver has granted a social pot club license to a second business.
The owners of Vape and Play say this will be a "saloon style" vape bar that will host various ticketed events. Patrons might, for example, see a comedy act or concert there, or attend a yoga class. There will also be a space for corporate functions, birthdays or bachelor and bachelorette parties.
They hope to open in November following required inspections.
Denver's first social pot business, The Coffee Joint, was granted permission to allow marijuana consumption in spring. A pot spa nearly became the city's second such business. The permit was denied because the historic mansion the spa owners wanted to operate in is 19 feet too close to a childcare center.
Interested business owners have told Next that's part of the reason more businesses haven't applied - they're having a hard time finding a space that meets geographic stipulations. Stakeholders who attended a meeting in May told the city that prohibitions on allowing social consumption at businesses that already have a liquor license slows down interest, as well.
Vape and Play will be located near South Broadway and West Mexico Avenue at what was M&K Cycle and Auto.
