KUSA – Different churches and businesses community members spent time joining in on prayer and music on the steps of the Colorado State Capitol building as part of the National Day of Prayer.

"Wake up America" was this year’s theme. The day is meant as a time for people to stop and pray for our nation, our churches, our families and each other.

“It is a day that is to be pure and holy unto him. And every person who is leading in prayer it's as if God has put it in their heart as well to be humble before him,” city coordinator Carole Urbas said. “So it’s a day of humility, rendering our hearts, and really just being on our knees before him."

President Harry Truman signed a bill in 1952 designating May 5 as the National Day of Prayer.
