FORT MORGAN, Colo. — The Morgan County community remembered a beloved family member, mentor and friend on Saturday at Fort Morgan Municipal Airport.
They held a celebration of life for Kyle Scott. He died in a plane crash Sept. 5 while crop dusting in Morgan County near Brush.
“He felt free in the air, close to God when he was flying,” said Brittany Staley, a family friend of Scott's for the last 21 years. “I have no doubt his legacy will live on through the airport, through his businesses, through the young kids he has touched.”
Family and friends said they had a hard time believing it was real.
At his celebration of life, Staley stood by her best friend, Scott's wife, Jennifer, as she reflected.
“His airplane was an extension of his soul and his work here on this physical earth,” Jennifer Scott said.
The two couples took lots of trips together with Kyle Scott as their pilot.
“We have gone to the Bahamas with them where he flew us there, we have gone to Florida, we have gone to Texas,” Staley said.
Scott flew for fun, for work, and to help others.
“This is the biggest funeral service or celebration of life for anything like this that I have ever seen, and probably one of the most profound,” said former Morgan County Sheriff Jim Crone.
Scott used to help the sheriff's office with wildfires and other missions.
“He would fly missing person searches, if we had a fugitive on foot somewhere, you know, pick up one of you guys get in here with a radio and let's go find him,” Crone said. “So he's been a big help for public safety.”
“He was just this protector in the air,” Staley said.
