Missing hiker found dead near Middle Saint Vrain Trailhead

The family of a 67-year-old hiker reported him missing when he did not show up on Thursday.

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — Two days after being reported missing, a hiker was found dead near the Saint Vrain Trailhead on Saturday afternoon, according to a release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. 

According to the release, a 67-year-old man who had gone hiking, climbing and camping near the Camp Dick Campground north of Nederland was reported missing by his family when he did not show up when he was expected to return on Thursday.

Boulder County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services started searching for the man when his vehicle was found in the trailhead parking lot, the release said. Both ground searchers and dog teams took part in the search.

At around 1 p.m. Saturday, search teams found the body of a man believed to be the missing 67-year-old in a scree field near the trailhead, according to the release. The Boulder County Coroner's Office will determine the identification of the deceased as well as the cause and manner of death, but the sheriff's office said the death does not seem to be suspicious at this time.
