GOLDEN, Colo. — The service for a Golden Police officer who was killed in a crash by a suspected drunk driver while responding to an earlier crash will be held Wednesday and will not be open to the public.

Officer Evan Dunn, 33, died in a collision on Highway 58 just after 5 p.m. on Nov. 6. Three other people were also injured, including Officer Bethany Grusing, his field training officer. Stephen Geer, 43, was arrested in connection with the crash.

The memorial service for Dunn will take place at 1 p.m. at Mission Hills Church on Southpark Drive. The service is private, and there are no plans to record it or to provide a public live stream.

Prior to the service, Dunn will be transported to the venue from C-470, north on Lucent Boulevard to eastbound West County Line Road. West County Line Road will be closed starting about 10 a.m. between Lucent Boulevard and East Elati Street.

Traffic will be restricted on roads around Mission Hills Church.

Community members are invited to show support by standing on the sidewalks along Southpark Drive and Southpark Lane.

Officials recommended arriving no later than 11 a.m. to view the procession. They said the best approach will be southbound from Mineral Avenue on Southpark Lane or Southpark Way, then walking to a place to watch the procession.

The fallen officer was identified as 33-year-old Evan Dunn, a recent graduate of the Golden Police Academy.

A patrol vehicle is parked outside Golden City Hall, located at 911 10th St. for receiving caring notes or other forms of support that the public may want to leave for Officer Dunn’s family and the Golden Police Department.

Monetary donations to Officer Dunn’s family may be made through the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation.

Geer is due in court on Thursday.
