Man pleads guilty to illegally selling snakes

DENVER (AP) - A man who kept scores of exotic and venomous snakes in his Firestone home pleaded guilty Friday to a federal charge of interstate trafficking of wildlife.

Thirty-seven-year-old Brook Berntson also pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of firearms. Federal officers seized 99-snakes, including rattlesnakes, cobras and vipers, along with drugs and weapons in a June 28 raid of his home in Firestone, about 20-miles north of Denver. Berntson faces up to 10 years in prison on the weapons charge and five years on the wildlife charge at his Aug. 13 sentencing.
