Man dies trying to retrieve boat from Loveland-area reservoir

Several people reported seeing the man floating in the water after he entered the lake to retrieve the boat.

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo — A man died while trying to retrieve a boat from Lon Hagler Reservoir southwest of Loveland Tuesday morning, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO).

Deputies said around 8 a.m., they got several calls about a man floating in the water after he entered the lake to retrieve a boat that was drifting away from shore.

A passerby took the unresponsive man to the shore, according to deputies. CPR was started immediately but was unsuccessful.

Deputies recovered an unoccupied boat associated with the man. They said no one else is known to be missing.
