ENGLEWOOD - A fatal multi-vehicle crash shut down a portion of South Broadway in Englewood for several hours Friday night.
The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on South Broadway at the intersection of West Rafferty Gardens Avenue.
Police say a driver of a pickup truck, 25-year-old Austin Cale, was traveling southbound on Broadway at a high rate of speed when another car pulled out in front of the truck.
The truck broadsided the car and pushed it into a third vehicle. The 87-year-old man driving the car that pulled out in front of the truck died at the scene. Police have not released the man's name.
Two other passengers in the car, a 60-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, were transported to Swedish Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the third vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
Cale was arrested for vehicular homicide. Police suspect drugs or alcohol were factors. Cale is being held under a $50,000 bond. He was booked into the Arapahoe County Jail.
