After four months of work, the lower part of Waterton Canyon is slated to reopen on Sunday.
The canyon has been closed since early February for work on the equipment that diverts the water to the High Line Canal.
Work on a new diversion dam about a mile up the canyon was stopped thanks to snow storms and then melting snow.
That work is not yet complete – and the water is still too high and moving too fast through the canyon to continue.
Access to the river from the canyon entrance to mile marker 3.2 has been closed indefinitely due to high flows in the South Platte River, according to the Denver Water website.
