DENVER — A new round of laws will take effect in July in Colorado after bills were passed by the state legislature in the 2024 regular session.
Here are some of the laws passed by the Colorado General Assembly and signed by Gov. Jared Polis that take effect on July 1:
Residential Occupancy Limits
HB24-1007 — The bill prohibits local governments from limiting the number of people who can live under one roof. Previously, local governments were allowed to set occupancy limits for people who weren't related to one another, no matter the size of the house.
There are a few exceptions in the new law. Local governments can enforce residential occupancy limits to follow fire code regulations and health and safety standards, or if the residence is part of an affordable housing program.

HB24-1147 — The bill regulates the use of deepfakes produced using generative artificial intelligence in communications about candidates for elective office.
Job Application Fairness Act
SB23-058 — The act prohibits employers from inquiring about a prospective employee's age, date of birth, and dates of attendance at or date of graduation from an educational institution on an initial employment application.
