HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — Officials in Douglas County have received multiple proposals to develop a regional park, leading to concerns from neighbors in the Wildcat Ridge area.
That park, which is currently zoned as a regional park, is home to dozens of elk and even golden eagles, according to people who live nearby.
“There’s nothing like it in Highlands Ranch,” said Warren Strech. “It’s vibrant. I wouldn’t have bought the same house without that view.”
Strech and a few dozen people gathered Saturday morning to paint cars with messages, as they look to convince Douglas County commissioners to leave the park as is or develop it with nothing more than trails.
The county has been looking for a place to add more baseball fields for quite some time, according to county leaders, and said it’s received five proposals to develop a 200-acre parcel of the park into that type of development.
“We’re not against ball fields, we’re not against activities for kids, but you’ve got to put it in the right place,” said Strech.
County commissioners would first need to approve a feasibility study looking at potential impacts to the land.
That vote could come as soon as early August.
