WASHINGTON — On Friday, the United States House of Representatives voted to expel Republican Rep. George Santos of New York on a vote of 311-114. There were eight representatives not voting and two representatives voting present.
All eight of Colorado's representatives participated in Friday's vote. Only Reps. Lauren Boebert and Doug Lamborn, both Republicans, voted against Santos' expulsion.
Voting yes among the Colorado delegation were Republican Rep. Ken Buck and Democratic Reps. Yadira Caraveo, Jason Crow, Diana DeGette, Joe Neguse and Brittany Pettersen.
The vote came after a critical ethics report was released that accused Santos of converting campaign donations for his own use. Santos was the sixth member in the chamber's history to be ousted by colleagues.
Of the previous five expulsions in the House, three were for disloyalty to the Union during the Civil War. The other two occurred after lawmakers were convicted of crimes in federal court. Santos made his case for remaining in office by appealing directly to lawmakers who worry they are setting a new precedent that could make expulsions more common.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
