Here's where to line the streets to honor fallen police officer

The memorial service for Golden Police Officer Evan Dunn will be held Wednesday in Littleton. Flags will fly at half-staff across Colorado.

LITTLETON, Colo. — The private memorial service to honor a fallen Colorado police officer will be held Wednesday in Littleton.

Golden Police Officer Evan Dunn, 33, was struck and killed by a suspected impaired driver while responding to a crash on Colorado Highway 58 on Nov. 6.

Three other people were also injured in the collision that killed Dunn, including Officer Bethany Grusing, his field training officer. Stephen Geer, 43, was arrested in connection with the crash.

Officials said the 1 p.m. memorial service at Mission Hills Church on Wednesday will be private, will not be open to the public, and there are no plans to record it or provide a live stream.

Line the streets for procession

The community is invited to line the streets Wednesday ahead of the memorial service.

Community members are invited to show support along the sidewalks of Southpark Drive and Southpark Lane in Littleton.

Officials recommend arriving in the area no later than 11 a.m. Wednesday in order to view the procession. The best approach will be southbound from Mineral Avenue on Southpark Lane or Southpark Way, and proceeding to the observation area on foot.

Traffic will also be restricted on roads around Mission Hills Church. West County Line Road will be closed from Lucent Boulevard to South Elati Street beginning around 10 a.m.

Flags at half-staff

Flags are to fly at half-staff on Wednesday across Colorado.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sundown on Wednesday to honor Dunn.

"I am deeply saddened by the loss of Officer Dunn, and my thoughts go out to his family and friends on the Golden Police Department," Polis said. "We also hope for a speedy recovery for the officer who was injured in this incident.

"Our law enforcement officers put themselves in harm's way to protect Coloradans day in and day out, and that’s exactly what Officer Dunn and his partner, Officer Bethany Grusing, were doing. We are grateful for their service and commitment to keeping Coloradans safe."
