LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — A Larimer County jail inmate's death was ruled an accidental drug overdose, according to an investigation ruling from the Eighth Judicial District's Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT).

Larimer County District Attorney Clifford Riedel sent the report's findings to Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith on Tuesday. The report said detention center staff did not contribute and were not negligible in 30-year-old Jenny Roelfs' death.

The CIRT investigation stated Roelfs was being held in the West Adam cell block at the Larimer County Detention Center on Feb. 18.

Just before 5 a.m., Roelfs' cellmate alerted detention center staff that Roelfs was unresponsive and bleeding from her nose.

Deputy Coxon responded and called for the medical unit, according to the report. Sgt. Darius Villereal and Cpl. Tito Martinez also responded and called for a medical emergency.

The report said Coxon, Villereal and Martinez began life-saving procedures until EMS and Poudre Fire Authority personnel relieved them.

At 5:49 a.m., Roelfs was pronounced dead.

Roelfs' cell and belongings were searched by CIRT investigators, according to the report.

Investigators reported finding drug paraphernalia and suspected heroin in Roelfs's cell and belongings.

During Roelfs' autopsy, Larimer County Coroner Dr. James Wilkerson found a baggie with suspected heroin in Roelfs's underwear, according to the report.

The autopsy did not show any other injuries to Roelfs. Her death was ruled accidental due to heroin intoxication.
