Large plume of smoke visible from brush fire that closed EB I-76

A brush fire closed eastbound Interstate 76 northeast of Denver Friday afternoon.

A large plume of smoke was visible in the northeast Denver metro area Friday afternoon due to a 10-acre brush fire that broke out near eastbound Interstate 76 and East 120th Avenue.

The fire led Colorado State Patrol to close the eastbound lanes of the highway for a time, but it has since reopened, according to Brighton Fire Rescue.

Video tweeted by firefighters and from 9NEWS viewers shows a large plume of smoke and towering flames:

The fire was out just after 2 p.m., according to Brighton Fire, though crews did stay on the scene to put out hot spots.

There’s no word what caused the fire.
