Puppy rescued from car with inside temperature of nearly 120 degrees

The puppy's owner was cited for animal neglect, according to the Lakewood Police Department.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A puppy was rescued Friday from a car that had an inside temperature of nearly 120 degrees, according to a Facebook post by the Lakewood Police Department.

The rescue took place in the area of the Colorado Mills mall at around 12:45 p.m. Friday after a citizen notified police, a department spokesperson said. 

Police and Lakewood Animal Control broke a car window to save the puppy, which was estimated to have been locked inside the hot car for about an hour, according to the spokesperson.

The temperature inside the car was 117 degrees, Lakewood Police's post said.

After rescuing the puppy, officers with Animal Control ensured it was OK, according to the post, and it reportedly did not require medical attention.

Police said the puppy's owner was cited for animal neglect.
