Lakewood Police arrest fugitive, schools taken off secure status

Schools in the area of Mississippi Avenue and South Dudley Street were placed on secure status as a precaution.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — The schools in Lakewood that were put on a precautionary secure status because of police activity near Mississippi Avenue and South Dudley Street are now open, police said Thursday afternoon.

Lakewood Police posted on X about their efforts to arrest a fugitive in the area. With the help of a SWAT team, the fugitive, who was wanted on a warrant for robbery and menacing out of Denver, was taken into custody. 

They posted earlier, "There are no threats to the schools and classes will continue as normal while we work to remedy the situation."

Police posted the update on X and said the "situation is resolved."
