LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Firefighters responded Thursday afternoon to several small fires on and around a golf course in Lakewood, according to West Metro Fire Rescue.
There were seven fires that burned 3 acres at Fox Hollow Golf Course, at 13410 W. Morrison Road. On Friday afternoon, the fires were 100% contained, said a West Metro Fire spokesperson.
West Metro Fire investigators took into custody a suspect connected to the fires. Joseph Duran, 44, has been charged with fourth-degree arson, intentionally causing a wildfire, and two counts of second-degree assault on a peace officer, according to the fire department. Court records show that Duran is still being held in the Jefferson County detention center under $50,000 cash-only bond.
All of the fires were on the golf course except for one that was in Bear Creek Lake Park that was the largest of the fires. The fires were mostly in drainage areas, along cart paths and in roughs, the spokesperson said.
Nearby structures were not threatened, West Metro Fire said.
