Woman in wheelchair hit, killed while crossing street

Police said the woman was in a crosswalk when she was hit.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A woman is dead after being hit by a pickup truck while crossing a street in a wheelchair Thursday in Lakewood, police said.

The Lakewood Police Department said a man in a pickup truck ran into the 52-year-old woman in a crosswalk at West Colfax Avenue and Teller Street just before 1 p.m. Thursday.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office will release her name after notification of her family.

The pickup driver was cited for careless driving resulting in death.
