Berg, who was Jewish, and a talk show host on KOA radio, was killed 20 years ago by white supremacists.Berg was killed around 9:30 p.m. as he was getting out of his car in front of his townhouse. He was hit by 13 bullets in a blast of machine-gun fire.Berg was known as the city's first "shock jock." He often challenged the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazis on the air. His stance got him to the top of a hit list. And on June 18, 1984, a group of men waited outside his home and killed him.In an interview with the Rocky Mountain News, Judith Berg says Alan's murder opened the door to accepting violence, as a way to act on hate.
