DENVER — JARS Cannabis has been named Denver’s first Cannabis Cares Champion, which is set to be announced Saturday at the Mile High 420 Festival.
The distinction comes after the company received all five badges under a new program started by the city last year to honor cannabis companies for community involvement and other positive impacts.
“We created the Cannabis Cares program as a way to recognize cannabis businesses that are giving back to the community, but also so consumers could be aware so they could shop with their values,” said Molly Duplechian with Denver Excise and Licenses.
Duplechian says multiple companies have received at least one of the badges, but JARS is the first to receive all of them.
The badges are issued for work in sustainability, diversity and inclusion, equity, community engagement, and contracting with a minority-owned business.
“Right now is a really competitive time for the Denver marijuana market and the Colorado marijuana market, and so I think this is an opportunity for businesses to stand apart,” Duplechian said.
JARS Cannabis is the permit-holder for Saturday’s Mile High 420 Festival, where the city will officially announce the award.
“It’s been such an incredible experience with checking these badges, it feels so good,” JARS spokesperson Ashley Chubin said. “It really should showcase to customers that they can trust who they’re doing business with.”
Chubin says checking off each badge was a team effort within the company, which helped organize city-wide cleanups and focused on partnerships with minority owned businesses.
“We really pride ourselves in being part of the community and being a pillar, a leader, and encouraging other businesses to do the same,” Chubin said.
