Woman who hired hit men to kill husband denied parole

DENVER – A woman who hired two men to shoot and kill her husband, after what she claimed was domestic abuse, was denied parole Tuesday.

Donna Yaklich appeared in court Monday morning after spending close to a year living in a half-way house in Arapahoe County.Yaklich hired two men to kill her husband, Pueblo Police detective Dennis Yaklich, in 1985.She was found guilty and sentenced to 40 years in prison. She was released to community corrections and a half-way house last year after a 9Wants to Know investigation aired in September of 2005.Her attorney, Phil Cherner, has argued the murder was a result of domestic abuse."The parole board was afraid to do the right thing," Cherner said Tuesday.Cherner says Yaklich will consider other options, but in the meantime, she will keep working at her job and live in the halfway house.
