9Wants to Know: Woman convicted of murdering husband released to halfway house

ARAPAHOE COUNTY - Donna Yaklich reported to a halfway house Friday afternoon. Yaklich is the woman who hired two men to kill her Pueblo Police detective husband in 1985.

During her trial, Yaklich claimed her husband was abusive and she was a victim of domestic violence. But she was found guilty and sentenced to 40 years in prison. In September, 9 Wants to Know investigated the death of Detective Yaklich's first wife, Barbara, and found the medical examiner may have missed a murder. Sheriff Dan Corsentino of Pueblo County reopened that case. A state-wide task force should have conclusions in the next few weeks.

Members of the community corrections board had not allowed Donna Yaklich out of prison before the Nine Wants to Know investigation. But after our story aired, Yaklich was approved for release. Again, Donna Yaklich is out of prison serving the rest of her sentence in a half-way house in Arapahoe County.
