Investigation into Beverly England cold case yields new evidence

The unsolved disappearance and murder of then-32-year-old Beverly England is still under investigation two years after the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office announced it had gotten "new information." The investigation this year turned up remains that are believed to belong to England.

Two years after receiving new information about the 1980 disappearance and death of Beverly England, the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office said their latest investigation into the cold case has yielded new evidence.

According to a Sunday news release, the Sheriff's Office and the Salida Police Department completed an excavation for clues into the then-32-year-old's death on Mount Shavano this weekend. The excavation took five days.

Investigators found human remains that are likely England's, the Sheriff's Office said. Human bones believed to belong to England were first found on Shavano in 1992. Authorities also found some items believed to be associated with her death during the most recent excavation.

The human remains found on Mount Shavano are being sent to the University of North Texas for identification. Several of the remains found showed possible damage that could be used to help investigators find a cause of death.

9NEWS reported in 2016 that the Sheriff's Office had received new information in England's case. Law enforcement said they had several "local persons of interest" in the case, but no arrests were made. In October 2015, investigators said they'd found DNA on a body found in 1992 that matched England's.

England disappeared on June 12, 1980, from her home in Salida. She reportedly told her two young children that she was going to meet a woman but never came home. Her car was found that same afternoon.

The Sheriff's Office, Salida Police Department, the Chaffee County Coroner's Office and the FBI took part in the excavation.
