DENVER - A 54-year-old inmate at the Downtown Detention Center, who was being treated for a terminal disease, died Monday morning.
The inmate was found unresponsive at 8 a.m. by a nurse and a sheriff deputy conducting their rounds in the DDC's third-floor medical unit.
CPR was performed and paramedics arrived on scene at 8:15 a.m.
The inmate was taken to Denver Health Medical Center at 8:35 a.m.
He was pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m.
Denver Police responded, which is normal procedure.
The inmate was serving a 90-day sentence for trespass and was due to be released Jan. 7.
An autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.
The Denver Sheriff Department is attempting to contact his family.
