Inmate dies at Larimer County Jail

The cause of the man's death is under investigation.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — An investigation is underway after the death of an inmate at the Larimer County Jail on Saturday.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office said in a release that a man was arrested by Johnstown Police on Friday morning for felony drug charges. Police took him to the hospital, where he was medically cleared for incarceration.

The release said the man was brought to the Larimer County Jail but during the booking process, he began to show signs of a possible overdose and was taken back to the hospital.

Just after 9 p.m. Friday, the release said, he was medically discharged from the hospital and booked into the jail.

The release said at around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, a deputy conducting routine status checks found the inmate unresponsive in his cell. Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.

The release said the man was the only person assigned to the cell and that he was alone.

The Larimer County Coroner's Office will determine the cause and manner of his death and will release his name, the release said.

The Eighth Judicial Critical Incident Response Team has been activated to investigate the man's death, according to the release.
