JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — U.S. Highway 285 reopened Wednesday morning in Jefferson County following a 14-hour closure.
A portion of the highway was closed in both directions, south of Aspen Park, after a fatal crash involving a semi that occurred around 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Colorado State Patrol said a semi-truck was southbound on Highway 285 when it went off the edge of the road, rolled onto its side, and dumped its load of pipe and angle iron on top of five other vehicles.
A person who was in one of those vehicles died on the scene, troopers said. He has been identified as Scott Miller, 64.
No other injuries were reported.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said diesel fuel spilled after the crash, and hazmat crews responded to the scene.
The highway was closed in both directions between Parker Avenue and Blackfoot Road for about 14 hours, until reopening at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.
