Hearing held over Greeley love triangle baby

GREELEY – It's been more than a year and a half since Heather Garraus was shot and killed execution-style in a Greeley parking lot.

But the repercussions still linger.

Earlier this year, a jury handed Shawna Nelson a life sentence for the murder of Garraus.

Nelson, a former Weld County dispatcher, had an affair with Garraus' husband, Ignacio Garraus, an ex-Greeley police officer.

The affair produced a child.

After the murder, Nelson's husband, Ken Nelson, became guardian of the baby.

Wednesday, Ken Nelson and an attorney for Ignacio Garraus appeared in family court in Greeley.

The hearing was closed, but Garraus' attorney told 9NEWS that Garraus is not seeking custody of the child.

Shawna Nelson took part in the hearing via a prison phone.

Heather Garraus was murdered on Jan. 23, 2007 as she walked out of work at the Colorado State Employee's Credit Union.

During the trial, prosecutors said Nelson killed Garraus in order to start a new life with Ignacio Garraus.

Garraus, through his attorney, told us he thinks Ken Nelson is doing a good job raising the child. He also thinks bringing Shawna Nelson's child into his home may upset his young daughter in the future.
