Green Party candidate files for a presidential vote recount

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein filed a request for a presidential vote recount in Wisconsin after suggested voting discrepancies.

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein filed a request for a presidential vote recount in Wisconsin after suggested voting discrepancies.

Stein filed the request around mid-afternoon Friday, just prior to the 5 p.m. CST deadline according to State Elections Commission Administrator Mike Haas.

Stein and her campaign are concerned of discrepancies in swing states Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. She has been raising money online to cover the costs of recounts in those states to ensure hackers did not skew the results.

As of Friday afternoon the campaign has raised about $5.2 million.

Wisconsin is bound by state law to perform a recount at a candidate's request if provided with a full coverage of the cost. Election officials estimate the cost to be up to $1 million.

According to state history, this will be the first time Wisconsin has ever performed a presidential vote recount.
