Bystander shoots robbery suspect in Aurora

While investigating, Aurora officers learned a bystander had intervened during the attempted robbery and shot the suspect. The suspect then fled the scene.

A bystander shot a robbery suspect near an Aurora grocery store Friday afternoon, police said. The suspect in the case is believed to have shot a woman during the robbery.

Police responded to a report of a shooting at the Village East Grocery Store at 1161 S. Peoria Street just after 2 p.m. and found a woman on scene suffering from a gunshot wound lying in the parking lot.

Aurora Police told 9NEWS they believe she'd been shot while inside the store.

She was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital and is in serious but stable condition as of 5:45 p.m. Friday.

While investigating, Aurora officers learned a bystander had intervened during the attempted robbery and shot the suspect. The suspect then fled the scene.

Just a few minutes after the shooting, police got a call about a man who was shot in the area of S. Joliet Street and E. Garden Drive nearby. Authorities say they arrived and found a man there who had been shot - and later learned he was likely the suspect who'd shot the victim at the grocery store.

The robbery reportedly began inside the grocery store; the woman is the store's owner.

The suspect is in custody at the hospital.

This was the second shooting of three reported on Friday in Aurora.

Another shooting broke out at the Town Center At Aurora when three men got into a fight and then one starting shooting, allegedly grazing one.

A deadly shooting was reported on N. Sable Street around 5:30 p.m. - no victim information is available at this time. The suspect is reportedly in custody.
