MADISONVILLE, Texas - Authorities have postponed their foot search for an inmate who escaped the Galveston County Jail on Monday night.
38-year-old Dominic Potter, a trustee at the Galveston County Jail, escaped through a loading dock gate while taking out the trash during his shift. From there he was able to steal a vehicle and travel to Madisonville which is about 150 miles away from Galveston.
Potter was last seen at a Buc-ees convenience store in Madisonville. A Madison County deputy spotted the truck Potter reportedly stole and went inside the store to locate the inmate.
"He took off through the back door and into the fields on the north side of the store," said Madison County Sheriff Travis Neeley.
Surveillance footage shows Potter escaping through a back door where an employee says they saw him escape into the woods behind the store.
Potter was last seen wearing a blue and white striped shirt and blue baseball cap.
At this time detectives with the Galveston County Sheriffs Office are revisiting items left in the inmates cell as well as call and visitation logs.
Officials have made contact with Potter's family as well as his cell mate, but have not received any new information on his whereabouts.
"At this point we want to get information out to the general public as well as other law enforcement agencies and see if we can get a tip on his location so he can be apprehended," said Neeley.
A $250,000 warrant has been issued by Galveston County for Dominic Potters escape, and authorities say he could also be charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle.
Officials warn anyone who sees Potter not to make contact with him but to notify their local authorities.
