Friends remember mother killed in hit-and-run in Aurora

"I miss her laugh. I miss her smile. She was a super happy person," friend Kya Perez said. "I loved her like my sister."

AURORA, Colo. — On Friday, loved ones will pay their final respects to a 23-year-old mom killed in a hit-and-run in late December.

Aurora Police said Paige Dye was found across the street from the city municipal building near East Alameda Avenue and South Fraser Court on Dec. 29.

"I miss her laugh. I miss her smile. She was a super happy person," her friend Kya Perez said. "I loved her like my sister. Like, I would have done anything and everything for her and her kids. It broke my heart for sure. I was devastated. I didn’t even know what to do with myself."

Perez was best friends with Dye, a mother of two originally from Evergreen. In late December, she was living in Aurora. On Dec. 29th around 10:30 p.m., officers found Dye's body in the area of East Alameda Avenue and South Fraser Court. They believe she had been hit by a car but the driver responsible did not stop.

"I don't know how somebody could just hit somebody and leave them there," Perez said. "It broke my heart because she's not just a random person. Like, she's a mom. She had two young kids. It's just a disbelief. I want to give her justice."

Police still don't have a description of the car or of a possible suspect. Perez hopes that changes soon.

"I understand that people might be scared to get in trouble or whatever the case may be, but if it was you or your family, what would you want for your family?" Perez said. "Her kids deserve peace and her family and all of us deserve peace to know that she deserves justice for what happened to her."

Aurora Police said there are no updates in the case. If anyone has any information about the car or the person responsible for hitting Dye, they're urged to reach out to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.

Friends have created a GoFundMe to help raise money for funeral costs and for the care of her children.
