2 people taken to hospital, dog dies after Fort Collins fire

Two people were inside the residence when the fire started around midnight, according to Poudre Fire Authority.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — One of two people taken to the hospital after a fire at a Fort Collins apartment building had to be rescued by firefighters, according to a tweet from the Poudre Fire Authority.

Crews responded to the two-story multi-family structure in the 1200 block of E. Stuart Street around midnight Tuesday morning.

Two people were inside the unit where the fire started, the agency said. One of them made it out on their own, and the other needed to be rescued by firefighters. Both were taken to the hospital, but no information was provided about their conditions.

A dog was killed in the fire, Poudre Fire said.

The entire building was initially evacuated, but some first-floor residents were later allowed to reenter the building. However, residents of at least four units have been displaced and the American Red Cross was called out to provide assistance to them.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
