BOULDER - A former Boulder police officer who was accused of stalking his ex-girlfriend and plotting to kill her new boyfriend pleaded guilty to felony stalking Monday morning.

According to the Daily Camera, Christian McCracken,33, was supposed to start his trial on attempted murder, stalking and felony menacing charges but instead decided on the guilty plea.

He was arrested in 2011 after he allegedly told his roommate he planned to kill his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, who were both Boulder police dispatchers. In August 2012, McCracken resigned from the force, just before an internal affairs review panel found he violated a department rule requiring conformance with laws.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped the charge of first-degree attempted murder, felony menacing and two other counts of stalking. As part of a plea deal, McCracken will be sentenced in April.

In a separate case, McCracken pleaded guilty to one count possession of a controlled substance.
