Malfunction during Steamboat fireworks show injures 3 technicians

The workers all had minor injuries and were treated on the scene.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — Three technicians were injured when a firework malfunctioned during a show at Steamboat Lake State Park on Saturday.

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the three workers were treated at the scene by firefighters and did not have to go to the hospital. None of the spectators were injured.

The department said that an unknown malfunction with one of the fireworks led to others that were on a stand nearby to ignite. The fireworks are launched over the lake from an island.

The rest of the show was canceled and the park manager said the lake was closed for two hours Sunday morning while they cleaned up debris and unused fireworks.

A video from the Steamboat Lake Marina shows the fireworks show start as normal before what looks like a large explosion.
