AURORA, Colo. — Several people are displaced from their homes after a fire at residential senior care home and the home next door in Aurora, according to Aurora Fire Rescue.

People in both homes were quickly evacuated, Aurora Fire said, and one was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The fire started around 4 p.m. near the intersection of South Hannibal Street and East Nassau Drive. Callers reported they were seeing one house on fire and black smoke coming from another.

Aurora Fire said crews arrived on scene in less than four minutes and found a single-story house and an adjacent two-story home were both on fire. The single-story home was a residential senior living facility.

The fire started in the senior home, according to AFD, and crews faced heavy fire there and on the south side of the other home. The call was then upgraded to a two-alarm fire.

Four people were displaced from the senior home and two people were displaced from the two-story home, AFD said. One person had minor injuries and was transported for medical care.

The fire was under control by approximately 4:30 p.m.
