2 Centennial homes damaged by fire

It was the second house fire in Centennial this week that investigators found was sparked by an unattended fire pit.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — For the second time in recent days, a fire pit that was left unattended caused a home to catch fire.

South Metro Fire Rescue responded to a fire Tuesday morning at 4801 E. Fair Court. All residents made it out safely, and no injuries were reported. A second home was also damaged by the fire, the agency said.

Investigators from the SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office determined an unattended fire pit placed near a wood fence and a pile of firewood caused the fire. This is the second fire caused by unattended fire pits this week.

On Sunday, crews responded to a home at 6121 S. Kirk St. in Centennial. Investigators found that the fire originated outside the home on the wood deck. According to South Metro Fire, an unattended fire pit that was sitting on the deck had not been completely extinguished.

Arapahoe County is currently under Stage 1 fire restrictions.
