What is pickleball? The morning team tries it out

You may have never heard of it, but Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., with more than 2.8 million players, according to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association.

KUSA — Members of the 9NEWS morning team have been heading out into the community for some adventures.

They've tried out ziplining and tandem bikes and this week they're trying pickleball. If you're like me, you may be wondering, what the heck is pickleball?

According to the USA Pickleball Association (yes that exists) it is a sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.

It is the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., with more than 2.8 million players and a 12% increase in the past year, according to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association. The video below explains the rules. Can't see the video? Click here: https://youtu.be/MAL_Au2S9Kk

It can be played indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net. It's played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes and can be played as singles or doubles.

Tune in to 9NEWS at 6:30 Friday morning to see how the team did.
